This video ref system stinks. If someone goes over the try line with the ball tifhtly gripped onto their stomach and applies downward pressure with their body in full control of the ball and the ref says no try on the field. The video ref cannot actually see the ball under the body, but the laws of physics tell usthe ball hasnt moved and is secure, the video ref cannot award the try. Rediculous....the reality is its a try all day....Just rule whether its a try or not. We can all see on the screen what has actually happened.

If the ref is in doubt just send it up not try or no try let the video ref deside

I’ve never understood the change.

The video ref should clear up what the onfield officials haven’t seen and give a decision. They shouldn’t be here to prove a ref’s complete guess is right, that’s bloody stupid! He’s gone to the VR because he doesn’t know, if he knows what it is he should make the bloody decision himself.

It should be passed upstairs with “can you clear up the decision on the offside and grounding please?” And the VR should then bang up TRY or ESSAI REFUSÉ

Although we get some seemingly strange decisions, the change was made to put the onus on the ref to keep in line with games where there isn't a video ref and in that respect, the system does work.
However, the VR should get it right 100/100, unless there really is no clear evidence (like the ball being buried under a pile of bodies etc).
Is the current system better than it was before the change ? probably, but not by much and I think that the video ref's just need to be a bit stronger and overturn a few more decisions.

One of the main issues at the moment seems to be the grounding and having the ball "under control".
We see loads of try's where the ball appears to come from the hand and be touched down with a finger end, most definitely not "under control", scores, which a few years ago, would not have been given.

So the bumker is definitely a no-no for SL then?
