What I don't understand is where the candidates came from. Was there a set list, or could you just vote for whoever you liked? Neil Fox is probably the greatest player to play the game in my lifetime. Arguably the greatest player of either code this country has produced since the war. And yet he was omitted for a Johnnie come lately like Offiah.'"
The BBC also ran features on each of the nominees in the run up to the vote, here is the Gus Risman one as an example:

| As for his record he actually scored more.
He spent an off season in New Zealand once but they didnt count the NZ league in those days so the stats are missed.

Precisely. He was playing in an era of one team domination of a weak sport. Neil Fox played in an era when the game was stronger, more conpetitivr and a lot tougher. Edwards would have struggled to be noticed in the late 50s and early 60s
