This is currently one of the major set backs for RU in Australia.

I'm in mid 20s and the only growth sport that I can think of in the past 10-15 years is darts which is on Sky. Am I forgetting anything?
Edit - UFC too.

| The thing with Kodi is that it just doesn't work does it. You can technically 'watch' things on it, but it's instable, the frame rate and resolution if often terrible, the sound is terrible. It's not anything like the real thing, it's as bad if not worse than watching movies that have been taped in the cinema on a camcorder.
This publicity is just unbelievable. It's a paid advert by Sky. They've paid the journalists to write about the significant reductions, but there won't actually be any. Premier League football is going to be split across two football channels at £18 each. So to get BT Sports, and both Sky football channels you'd have to pay £59 just for that, plus £30 ish for the lowest package. Throw broadband and phone in and you are at £130 a month.
Rugby League will get screwed here too I feel. We'll be lumped into some 'boutique' channel with Kabbadi and Badminton and they'll use that to say the sport attracts less viewers than it used to.

All internationals and the challenge Cup need to be on free to air tv. It's criminal the recent test against Samoa wasn't. Sadly for Super League we need the big money sky pays to show games exclusively, the money from free to air wouldn't compare.

| I have said for a couple years now that the UK TV market is way behind the times and needs a big overhaul.
It's crazy that the rest of the world can watch Saturday PL games which are not available on TV in the UK.
And it is a way Sky can renegotiate contracts on thier actual worth.
People want a tailored on demand service.

| Will we still receive a similar funding from Sky if their profits are reduced? Thats the worry we are on the edge with the current funding

| Perhaps this is the opening for discussions with Sky re: the previous deal which should accelerate our discussions for the structure going forward.
Its an interesting change and one that has come earlier than i though, and a major change in Sky's business model. The atomisation of content will probably be the biggest change since the advent of Pay-tv.
There is a chance we could be at the forefront of it, a rugby league channel exists already, Rugby League needs to take control/ownership of it and for it to become the portal and starting point for RL.

You could probably burgle a house as well if you really put your mind to it.

The piece I read stated that Sky would continue to honour all existing contracts. So it doesn't sound like we'll be doing any negotiating until this current deal runs out in 2021 (I think?)
By which point the new structure might have shown Sky just how much money they can make from our sport.

sky will honour the contract, but what if the rfl is unhappy about being put on a lower budget channel, lower subscribers to that channel could impact future negotiations, even more now since our coverage has been diluted to just full games and a twenty minute highlight show on a monday (take away the ad break time)

Its more that it might be in both parties interest at this point to re-negotiate (if not now, in the near future) Our Structure is changing so what we are selling to them is going to change and they have major changes in their business model, there could be a much more mutually beneficial arrangement in this new world.
I mean, a Rugby League Channel already exists.
