Happy days!
I know Wigan had 37 players out and had to play their under 12s reserve team, but I'm just throwing this out there - we've inflicted their biggest home defeat since July 2016, and most number of points conceded at home by a Wigan side since May 2016. Also, Castleford were not at full strength themselves - 3 1st team players missing including arguably our best forward in Millington and our captain who had to pull out minutes before the game (that often has a big effect), Moors looked to be carrying a bit of an injury still and Minikin has just returned from a shoulder injury and purposefully didn't get involved as much.
Finally, it's acknowledged Wigan had all sorts of injury problems in the backs and competed well in that respect but out of the 10 forwards who played and whipped NRL side Cronulla, 7 were 'playing' last night.
Wigan will come back into form when they get some of the 8/9 players back but it was our first major test, and that wasn't a lucky last gasp win but one ground out regardless of if there were 2 or 3 scores between the teams

| Agreed HT. We play the Goons again at the end of the month at our place. With possibly only Gildart and Samkins missing it should be a lot tighter and i'm expecting a better performance from them (unless the dreaded flu bug strikes again).

| Quote Tigerade="Tigerade"Well - i'm happy for any kind of win at the home of the champions. Over on Cas Forum all the other cas fans seem to by happy. Wigan fans on this thread are happy with a 27-10 loss because it was the beginning of the season and they had 9 players out. Loads of neutrals who watched the game on Sky were happy. John Wells was obviously happy and so were all the Leigh and Saints fans.
Happy, happy people.

Seem to remember you finding it quite "testing" at Salford the other week?

| Must admit Castleford are a pleasure to watch and I see them as being strong contenders very strong, however History tells us Wigan will come good when it matters, for years now they only wheel out the likes of SO'L when it actually matters, and if last night was one of those nights they would have wheeled them out. You only have to see the 62-0 result Wakefield put on them last year and who won the grand final.
Wigan and Cas are the two best teams I've seen this year and unfortunately for us Wigan were at full strength when they played us in the opening fixture minus Bateman who was rested to keep him and Mossop apart.
As to last night I'm glad Cas won and the longer they carry on winning the longer they stay with one loss against their name.

Great to see Salford going so well too. I think our loss vs Salford helped us out. Shows we can be beat at anytime so in a way I think it was a good thing.

Well said, about time someone sensible commented on this thread. You are right, Wakefield whipped us 62-0 last year... Sooo Wakey > Cas
Noone seems to be talking about Salford though, beat super Cas and smashed - IMO - the best opposition team I've seen this season Hull.
Hope the Reds shake it up

Salford are stopping under the radar well, and quietly going about their business. I like what they are doing there at the moment. They seem to be now following how we have tried to do things. No 'superstars', and an honest hard working coach being left to get on with his job and everyone work for each other. On the subject of Wigan, lets not be under any illusions here, they will be challenging for OT come October. Along with us, I hope! Its a long season and titles aren't won in April. I think we have a good enough squad to ride injuries and get through to the business end, and I know Wigan do. Squads win trophies, not your first 1-17. It's gonna be an interesting season. I'm looking forward to seeing how Easter shakes things up too.

I'm not sure putting 50 past hull on their own turf can be considered going about their business 'quietly'
But I agree that it's refreshing to see some new faces at the top of the table for a change. I know it's a long way off but a Salford v Cas GF would be great for the game.
