That video (the facebook one v Keighley, not the one v Sharlston) doesn't show anything too dramatic and certainly doesn't confirm the involvement of spectators, as claimed on Keighley's website. I'm not for a minute saying there wasn't more that went on but it'll be hard for the RFL to determine how bad the events were if that's all they have to go on.

Ban em. All of em involved. Ban the coaches. Ban the club officials. The club as a whole placed on warning. Any, even slight, disciplinary issues for violence in the next 10 years and the club will be banned from every league in the country.
It's well beyond time that plenty of amateur players, coaches and club officials are kicked out of the sport. They won't be missed.

Amen to that.
I wonder how many of those thugs are involved in the junior sections of their clubs; coaches, assistant coaches, dads, committee men? That culture is a big part of what's wrong with the community game, and weak oversight allows it to continue, such that some clubs, named in this thread, are well known for it, yet it continues unchecked.
It's time the community game was grabbed by the knackers and sorted out once and for all. |

If Nigel Wood would do this and only this he would've done the sport more good than anything since the split in 1895.

They should treat this as a once in a lifetime watershed moment and move to stop violence in RL for good. Yesterday at Featherstone there was a simmering undercurrent that Fryston were poised for a brawl. What eventually took place was ghastly. Probably what was even more grotesque was Fryston's on field team celebration after the hooter despite having lost and being knocked out of the cup. It was as if they were saying we planned to cause a brawl. and isolate one of their players. and beat him up. and we succeeded 100%. As "Him" often says, this feeling that violence is not far away holds back the grassroots growth of the game. It doesn't matter if kids first learn skills at a RU club. If they could try amateur league, many would love it and stay. Skills are needed and physical resilience and some toughness and that can be appealing. But for most the thought of Saturday night type pub brawl violence is not. At EVERY level of the game the RFL should introduce a long term zero tolerance policy NOW - anybody guilty of deliberate pre-meditated violence, mainly punching but also head butting, kicking etc should receive an automatic 12 month ban from the game. Only then will RL grow and be seen as a skilful, physically demanding but ultimately safe and enjoyable sport to play.'"
In addition, I should have said that the amateur game ethos/mentality of "One in, all in" has to be eliminated. All amateur teams need to know that, if any team is deemed to have adopted and used a 'one in, all in" policy during a match, then EVERY PLAYER in that team will be banned for 12 months. |
