| My observations (FWIW):
The Salford fans were given 2 blocks of a stand, the rest of which was (partially) occupied by home fans. This meant some Salford fans (myself included) having to sit in the next block along as my ticketed seat was occupied. The rest of the Salford fans were at the opposite end of the ground. If Salford had been given another block (or two) in that stand they would have been easier to steward. As it was, some stewards were at the opposite end of the ground, and there were nowhere near enough at either end. At the final whistle fans are entering the pitch from both ends of the ground, making it harder to prevent. How are tickets allocated when larger travelling support attend?
At the end of 80 minutes there were (I would guess) a couple of hundred fans in front of the Colin Hutton stand, next to the dead ball line, the full width of the pitch, ie from both sets of supporters. If Rovers had won, rest assured their fans were about to invade the pitch and the outcome would have been similar. Why the game was restarted before these fans were told to get back in their seats is beyond me - it was clear what was coming at the end regardless of who actually won.
The Salford fans shouldn't have entered the playing area, but when they did it was to celebrate their victory. What reason would any Hull KR fan have to go on to the pitch, unless it was to confront the celebrating fans? They can say they were 'goaded', but from what I saw (and the videos knocking about back up) they came to the Salford fans before they had even had a chance to get anywhere near the East stand to 'goad', often picking off fans and knocking them to the ground from behind before disappearing back towards the stands.

| Quote: AntonyGiant "Original post seems to be aimed directly at Hull KR, but I'm sure Salford wouldn't of been innocent in it all.
Invading a pitch before the game had finished... After the game had finished and most likely goading the opposition fans is just as bad.
And you think no Salford fan threw a first punch or got into somebodies face. Doubt it.'" nobody condones the salford fans behaviour in this but the blame for poor policing and stewards lies soley with the home club . ps the situation is compounded by the reliably incompotent humberside police making only 2 arrests on the day

East Hull Is Wonderful!: |

Was you there? A fair few Salford fans who ran onto the pitch came straight over to the east stand goading the KR fans onto the pitch. Both sets are equally to blame as each other.

Hull City were at home to Chelsea and kicked off at the exact same time. I don't think you can blame Rovers for scheduling such an important game to kick off at the same time as a high profile Premiership game. No wonder the Police were stretched.

| Quote: SaleSlim "Has made one of the main articles on ITV Regional news tonight. Poorly reported IMO and as disgusting as the scenes were it certainly wasn't a balanced report and basically blamed all the trouble on Salford fans when there were clearly both sets of fans involved and to blame.
Going back to the pitch invasion, I'm sorry but it has been going on for years and it will continue to do so in venues where there isn't sufficient stewarding/policing. Watch any lower league football play off game/relegation decider and it inevitably ends in a pitch invasion. If anyone can mention a rugby league match with such a ridiculous ending as Saturday I'll buy you a pint. And it's easy for fans of successful clubs to mock but imagine supporting a team that's been a shower of poop for pretty much 30 years. Salford get relegated on Saturday and their future is seriously in doubt. 78 minutes gone and the final nail is being lined up for the coffin... you're distraught, this could be the end of the club you love as you know it. Then a miracle happens, think Nou Camp 99, THAT Aguero goal or Jimmy Glass for Carlisle. The players go mental, the fans want to celebrate that moment with them and 99% of fans celebrate peacefully. A lot of Salford fans can be seen commiserating the HKR players as well which has barely been mentioned. But hey, any other teams fans would just stand there motionless and give an extra tap on their drum as a sign of what a jolly splendid afternoon they've had eh?
Throw the book at anyone involved in the fighting from both sides, it's deplorable and they're n0bheads the lot of them. Don't demonise a club and a whole set of fans though.'"
