Believe me I've tried the pies and other baked goods in Australia and they're not as good as you get in the north of England, the pastry just isn't quite right. It's the same down here in the South East, we have a local "award winning" independent bakery chain but I reckon they'd last about 5 minutes in the North as they're just not that nice and the price is well over the odds for the actual quality.

I had a very good pie from a stall in borough market. Other than that (unfortunately I haven't sampled any Australian ones) generally the ones up north are better.
