Joe Burgess is coming back to Wigan after just one year and not much game time. I think talk of an exodus to the NRL has been premature, it will always be an attraction to players but only the top top players make it and stay there in the long run. The only real surprise has been Josh Hodgson who was only steady and average in SL, but has ripped it up over there. Hopefully even after just a short spell there these players come back better players.

At leastt Burgess had the balls to give it a go, unlike the Peacocks and Sinfields of super league. Unless it was a case that no NRL team thought those 2 were good enough.

I think there will still be a fair few players who head to the NRL over the next few years. They need to be smarter about which clubs they go to and wait for the right time. Burgess went too soon, I believe he will be a genuine world class winger in another couple of years when he could probably go as a first choice and make a good go of it. He went to a team where he had to try and break into the side and only got the odd game here and there as a result. |
