I'll say what I've said before about Origin: if every game of rugby league was like that, I'd soon lose interest in the sport. Typical dull arm-wrestle.

I was annoyed to be working and couldn't watch but when I looked at the result I thought that is a couple of hours of my life that ive enjoyed more being a caretaker hahaha

Your lucky, I started watching on premier player tonight, thought it might get better in the second half I was wrong. If that is the style of play the Ausies aspire to then how are we suposed to spread this game to new fans or even keep them? it was boring not even a punch up to get us going.

It was very dull because the defence of each side was too good.

It's just Origin, though. I watched the Cowboys/Broncos the other night, and although just as intensive a game, it was a quality contest and a much better watch.

Another year, another record set of ratings for the Nine network's broadcast of State of Origin!

Viewership for Game 1 broke all records before it, with an average of 3.951 million sets tuned in to coverage of Queensland's narrow 6-4 win over New South Wales.

Numbers peaked at one point during the night with 4.423 million the highest recorded figure across the five metropolitan cities and regional viewing areas all combined. Metro numbers themselves were impressive with an average of 2.708 million tuning in across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Nine's match coverage seemingly only beat itself - the next best rating programs on Wednesday night were the pre-match program (2.345 million nationally) and the post-match wrap up (1.072 million).

What a terrible game of rugby that was. Were there any offloads? Was there anything other than the first man crash-ball, five times, then a kick? It was a tedious watch.

Origin is too safety first and percentages RL these days. It sometimes seems both sides have almost too much respect for each other. Don't get me wrong, i appreciate good defence but with the high array of Attacking talent on the pitch it would be nice to see a few more risks taken with ball in hand in order to create the space for the big guns to fire.
