| I was at Sam Platt's yesterday and you could tell it was going to happen about an hour before it actually did. It all started off great, two sets of fans, having a laugh and a beer and a bit of a sing song. Then two sets of fans from both sides, (none who were in club colours, if that even matters, but I think it does), started closing the gap in the tents at Sam Platt's, and the atmosphere completely changed. I went with a group of 20 and a lot of those were women who wanted us to leave way before it all kicked off because you could tell something wasn't right. We mentioned something to the bouncers about just removing them but made a point of it causing more trouble than it was probably worth, and decided to put a row of 6/7 bouncers in a line separating the two.
Then all it took was one push and all hell broke loose, and one of the girls I was with almost got caught in the middle of it, but luckily was dragged away before a flying bottle nearly caught her in the face, but a bouncer wasn't so lucky who got hit in the eye and was flat out on the ground as we left. Wigan 'fans' if you can call them that started it, and Leeds gave as good as they got. Disgraceful stuff really, and I wouldn't say it ruined the day, but certainly put a dampener on it.

| Not a whole lot in it, a bit of handbags. I was expecting much worse based on the comments I was reading here.
As for the guy 'throwing bottles' it looked like empty beer cans to me.
Still though, it's great that people are so unanimous is condemning such behaviour!

why wouldn't people condemn it?
that behaviour is not acceptable anywhere, never mind at a high profile RL event!
it's violence, violence associated with RL fans, are you happy to have a label of RL fans being violent drunks?
were you involved by any chance? you seem to be condoning that sort of behaviour.

| We went drinking in Salford beforehand for for some good beer and culture. Had a good craic with the locals and landlady in the New Oxford before moving onto the match. Wherever you go to watch RL these days there are empty heads looking to spark some trouble. The chants of "we hate rhinos" and "we all hate Leeds scum" are commonplace at most grounds, and do sometimes draw a reaction from a tiny majority of Leeds fans, but if I went around chanting " I hate Cas/Wigan/Hull scum" etc, I would expect to get a smack in the mouth somewhere eventually. Being on the beer all day and larger groups than usual swanning around become a toxic mix at the bigger games. You will get a cross section of society following every club therefore your percentage of divs. Leeds are no worse than anyone else, but as a previous poster said, having the largest support means we will have a bigger number of divs. We will also have a bigger of good law abiding supporters as well.

| not condoning this for one minute but i think we do rather well to be able to for the most part, generally mix as fans and have banter and a good laugh together, sing songs and stand amongst each other with no trouble whatsoever.that Could never happen in football.I was in a few bars around the ground as well as Sam Platts at around the time the said fighting started,i was inside the pub at the time and when i came outside a friend said there was a bit of agro that dispensed in under a minute so i think people on here maybe over egging it as per usual. Im sure 99 percent of people at the game yesterday had an excellent day and enjoyed what was for the most part a great atmosphere.

Yes it was, we saw Leeds fans fighting each other and randomly starting on anyone unlucky enough to be near them right outside St James Park.

Yes it could, it happens all over the country every weekend.

| People who are drunk and enter ANY sporting stadium cordon/Area around a stadium are commiting a criminal offence under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985.
if there is any sense from the RFL they need to be resolute in stating and reiterating that fans turning up drunk to matches (league/cup whatever) will be turned away and not allowed to enter AND possibly be turned over to the police.
Scummy fans like this have no place in RL as far as I'm concerned, they are more interested in getting tanked up than what happens on the pitch, it's hardly surprising that fewer fans want to bring their kids due to the heads that are turning up. As for blaming 'soccer' fans, utter garbage.

| WHEN we are on about fans fighting years ago ,at Hull krs old ground many a time fighting started and with me and the wife taking our kids we were able in them days to stand on the steps in the old ground which lead up to the seats, any how with standing on the steps you were able to spot the trouble makers and one was posh has hell suit and tie job, he would start the trouble then move of when we were able we told the police they did not believe us when we pointed him out to them but the next home game a plain clothes police man was stood their and pinched him so what i am saying is it will always happen that you get dick heads out to cause trouble

Is English your native tongue? How on earth did you interpret my comments as condoning this behaviour!?
Quite often fans (of any sport) would play the blame game and/or try and try and downplay it's severity. I think it's great that we have family-friendly atmospheres at matches and are determined to preserve that!
Let me know if you need any further clarification
