Quote: JEAN CAPDOUZE "JJB's accent is so thick, and his slurring of words so grotesque,, that he makes Peacock seem intelligible.'"
This and your earlier use of the word 'parochial' to try to legitimise your prejudice truly speaks volumes about you.
By 'parochial' you really meant the accent of the North of England. Not even that, really. More the old counties of Lancaster and York. You cite Brian Carney as being acceptable to your aural taste, yet his accent is as strong as anyones. Just that it's no longer acceptable to discriminate against the Irish.
You unwittingly highlight the fact that in these 'enlightened times' that perhaps the last remaining tolerable prejudice is that of against people from these two counties. Try having a go at the accents of scousers, geordies, brummies, glaswegians, cockneys, devonians, the welsh or even the french and you will be assailed by cries of indignation, calling you a near racist. Yet it's fine for you to single us out with the clear inference that Northern = thick.
The Rugby Union broadcasters don't seem to have a problem with post match interviews with either of England's prospective fly halves, nor do they shirk asking many of the Northern coaches for their genuinely expert opinions.
If no-one else is allowed to be discriminated against for anything whatsoever, I think that we need to start fighting back against this bald prejudice a bit more as we will be the only butts of any jokes whatsoever.
