Everyone takes the mick out of a Northern accent. It's not just in certain unsophisticated media tropes, but in everyday life when you encounter someone south of Crewe.
Even my house mate, from Peterborough has started to do the "eee, lad, by gum..." nonsense at me. I have no idea why this is, really. I really can't fathom the desire or motivation behind it. But hey, life is too short to get worked-up about it.
Even with my adopted Southern softie accent I take the out of 'Londoners', though really that should be the whole of the South East and/or anyone else that lives in a detached 'hoise'..lol
