Getting into financial and legal disputes with your players and then admitting you can't fulfil your fixtures will put off even average players from going to Salford.'"
I can see your point but I suspect this was about lodging in the public's mind that we are severely depleted so f we get a caning in this game and drop out of the 8th it helps manage the 'same old Salford' response
It's hard for some to get how hard it is to rebalance the low expectations of the Salford public. After the opening against Warrington I went for a few pints. Half a dozen people asked me the result and when I said we'd lost they all said separately 'I thought they were supposed to be good now'
We'd lost to one of comp favourites away by 14 points. So not great but not a bad result by any means. But to the Salford public it's just further proof about how crap we are. We're in the top 4-6 and can still only pull in 3-4k. I think it's hoped that if people are aware of hoe depleted we are the response might be 'not a bad result considering.....' Rather than 'Salford always get beaten'
Admittedly may make some think Salford are badly run of they're struggling to get a team out but I guess that's the marketing gamble?
