Here I was thinking NZers were a step up on Aussies on this kind of thing. Seems 4 wins in 20 against them has elevated you to their level of arrogance now.

I think very few of us expected to make the final but we had a good young side capable of making it and after last years WC semi-final performance we knew we weren't far off (SBW negating Sam's departure).

On reflection, it was very frustrating to be denied a try where our players hand is on the ball while the ball is on the ground. The explanation of the decision (the ball was rising) only fueled that frustration as it's completely illegitimate. We should have drawn that game (and possibly won with Widdop's kicking that day).

Against NZ we went within 2 and again, due to the dynamics of the points differential, which Gutters seems to have dismissed, (likely) would have drawn by taking the penalty goal at the end.

And we beat Samoa by more than NZ in tough conditions.

All in all a positive but ultimately unsuccessful tournament that would leave anyone a little bitter.
