| Quote: SmokeyTA "I think its more likely he just got caught up in the moment and forgot. How often is the ref asked to make that kind of decision, and how often does he refer it to the VR? I think he just got caught up in his usual process, looked at it, thought it went wide, blew for it. Never crossed his mind to go to the VR.
This is a big mistake for a ref btw, it’s a failure of process not judgement. Any ref, even the bestest in the world ever can make a mistake of judgement, none at his level should make a mistake of process.'"
Quote from today's Yorkshire Post rl]www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/huddersfield/drop-goal-referee-bentham-says-video-call-would-not-have-spared-huddersfield-1-6547688rl]
Asked why he did not make use of the replays, he said: “I was in the right position to make the call so got a good view of the kick and it always stays left of the post. To be honest, it didn’t occur to me to go to the video referee as I’d made the decision.
“We’ve reviewed it (Monday) and the video referee says – with the two different camera angles available – it was inconclusive so, even if I’d asked him, he’d have had to come back to me to make the call anyway.
So after reading that statement what process has he failed in? He has stated it always stays left of the post, so why would he then go to the video ref? if you think we should go to the video ref for everything then you might as well watch a game that lasts 3 hours. Phil has done nothing wrong in this incident.

| Quote: Him "They said that the Sky team worked for hours to get the position of the ball when it crossed the try line.
So there are 3 choices here
Conspiracy?? Have you been on the sherbet?
I would consider any workings out by anyone to inform us. If they just announce the result, though, without saying how they arrived at it, how can I or anyone check their workings out if I want to test their theory/calculations/conclusions?
How do you know whoever did it is NOT "incompetent"? He or she may have started off with one simple but crucial basic mistake and that led to a suspect result. All I say is you and I have no grounds on which to judge the competency or otherwise of what Sky did. If they told us or showed us their methods, then I'd know and could assess. Maybe they will. I would be very interested and if they had a convincing proof of any conclusion then great! Why would I have any problem with that? I wouldn't!
Quote: Him "Why would you assume anything except the first choice? Is it because that would prove you wrong?'"
FFS. If one thing is fair to say then that is I have assumed nothing. I have tried to provide ways of working it out and produced my calculations and reasons. The entire point of the discussion is to TEST any assumptions, theories or propositions. Why would you have an issue with that?
Your final question is absurd, since I neither have any desire to be "proved right", and since I really don't crave your approval. I just like a technical discussion. During which, incidentally, I have been persuaded to revise my original conclusions, which fact in itself blows a hole in your question, doesn't it?

| I've been told to stop being theoretical and just let people spout off, so in that respect, it was a try, it was not a knock on and the ref got the call right.

As a Cas fan there is no-one to blame for that defeat apart from the players. I do not have any complaint against the officiating. Saints have now done 3 Yorkshire teams in the last minute, they deserve nothing but credit.
