I think on the whole the refs do a good job, I can get decisions wrong after seeing them three or four times in slow motion, a very difficult job that I wouldn't do in a million years.

IMO the refs do a decent job and it all usually evens up over the season.
There are some other things the game could do to make life easier for them
(mike up to the touch judges, extra refs, stopping players mouthing off at them)
But too much technology and we will go the way of American football.
too much backchat and we go the way of wendyball.

As in a sport that wants to be forward thinking and wants to improve year on year and eliminate poor decisions by officials? Heaven forbid the RFL copy that!

If there's one league the RFL wants to be copying it's the NFL.

I don't think many players would agree with that icon_lol.gif

Thaler is by far the best the league has right now.

I couldn't agree more. Many times my son and I have been at matches where we've believed the referee has got decisions wrong but, on watching the Sky recording later, have seen that most of the ref's decisions have been correct. I tried to post on the "Roby/Ganson" thread that, as far as I'm aware, there is usually a second referee (one who's previously retired) in the stand at every game, his job being to speak to the actual referee at half time, to discuss with him where he might improve aspects of his game. I know this used to be a regular occurrence years ago because my wife's dad (Ron Gelder, who refereed four Challenge Cup Finals in the 1950's, including the famous Odsal replay) later became a referee's assessor (not a referee's controller, as per Steve Ganson), dad's job being to do exactly what Steve Ganson did last sunday at Wakefield. I don't for a minute think that Steve would have b*ll*cked Tim Roby, as reported on the "Ganson/Roby" thread, he would simply have given advice. As other posts have correctly stated, Steve Ganson has, on many occasions, bent over backwards to avoid being seen as biased towards the team which represents the town he's from. My son and I were at the Saints v Wakefield game and (a) saw no crowd trouble whatsoever and (b) were relieved that Saints second half performance was 100% better than in the first half. I reckon that the only b*ll*cking at half time came from Nathan Brown - and it worked wonders!
On a personal note, as a lad originally from Normanton, I supported Trinity in the 1950's and 1960's and it saddens me to see how Belle Vue has been allowed to deteriorate. Remember Trinity versus Wigan in the mid-50's when the ground held 27,000 and parts of the film "This Sporting Life" were filmed on the pitch that day? Best of luck to Trinity this season.
