Still 3 extra weeks, would mean the season doesn't finish until nearly December by the time the internationals are over, and some players would have played 40+ games. How would an annual Club World Championship work in an international WC year?

Well my system would give you your three extra games, without exhausting any one side, as they'd all just be one-offs for each club involved!
