Quote: Ganson's Optician "Likewise, the same people who moan about Eddie and Stevo not purely calling the game (why do you need a radio commentary when you can see the pictures?) are embarrassingly obsessed with Andrew Voss, despite him spending most of the World Cup games waffling on about irrelevant rubbish.'"
I think Voss' ramblings were part of the charm - he gave a travelogue of his World Cup experience and seemed genuinely enthused about the game and the places he'd visited. In between, he called the games with knowledge and insight and didn't second guess the officials or dispense vapid advice to the players and coaches about getting the message out or utilizing the skill factor.
I think the problem with Eddie and Stevo is simply that familiarity breeds contempt; Voss was liked because he was new and different. If he did the job for 16 years, people would be fed up of him too.
