Quote SmokeyTA="SmokeyTA"I would have thought that should this pass it would be done unanimously. We cant be dragging clubs kicking and screaming in to a new structure. From the noises coming out it seemed this posturing was about the governance issues and not necessarily solely the structure. It seemed it was all a bit of politicking.
Should this rumour be true (and I don’t know if it is) then things take on a different complexion entirely. I have no doubt the 4 walk out clubs can gain support but the same issue plagues them as before. They haven’t put forward a better alternative and explained their reasons behind it.
I don’t support the new structure, but some kind of resolution needs to be found.'"
Agree, but do they need to put forward an alternative? Why not just do a simple format of 12, teams, play each other twice home and away and have one up one down. This seems to work well for all other sports in this country and worked pretty damn well for us.
Licensing is obviously a failed "innovation", but that doesn't mean we need more "innovation" lets get back to basics. The "split" idea I hate and fear it could harm the sport much more than the stobart deal. It is extremely radical and the RFL should have a clear plan if how it would work. Clearly they do not have this.
The main reason I hate the idea is because the same teams will finish in the same positions year on year. It doesn't appeal to me as a fan. If we split I wouldn't get a ST for the first time in years. Not as a form of protest, but because i dontknow what I'm buying as a customer/fan. If we played in the championship our ST prices would come down significantly. But with the split I could be charged SL prices but be playing championship sides half the season. Also as a fan it would not interest me what so ever trying to win the second tier. It's basically a comp between the relegated 4 teams as the championship clubs will be on a fraction of their salary cap. They have no chance of promotion. I would much rather have relegation battle that would keep me on the edge of my seat knowing my team could be relegated. Even if it meant heartbreak. that js what sport is about! Once again the fans view is not taken into consideration.
