Quote Bull Mania="Bull Mania"Not a chance IMO
Mcnamara has put in some good structures that will benefit England hugely in the future. No club alliance, England knights etc
BUT
Mcnamara has had four years to prepare for this tournament. He has Been allowed to do it his way and given all the resources, yet we have been knocked out in the semi on home turf. He's taken the side as far as he can.
Mcnamara made some errors, te half back situation has effective been a joke for 3 years. One of our best players of the tournament in Ferres wasn't even in the original 25 man squad. The inclusion of T Burgess and Mossop handicapped us when it came to crunch time.
I don't see how we can reward him with a new contract when we have finished this in what is effectively a 3 team race/contest.
Tim Sheens called his sides win over England embarrassing. Yet some people think Mcmamra deserves a new contract for a good performance against NZ. That's why they're so much better than us.'"
You really don't get what's just happened do you.
McNamara has proved the doubters wrong myself included - but I'm a big enough man to admit it.
He has created in this tournament a team ethos and pride that simply hasn't existed in the England (GB) shirt since SL and money became the be all and end all of the game and perhaps before that.
It's not McNamara's fault that there is still such a small talent pool in SL or that still so few players play NRL.
Before you point the finger at him and others look at yourself and how giddy you get every time your club (ditto others) sign some past it Aussie in a key position in your team. That's the real problem, greedy chairman, poor Coaches taking easy options and gullible fans thinking all that's Aussie is gold (so to speak).
If McNamara had the riches of the NRL to choose from we'd be finalist now - and we should be close if the SL and especially the RFL had been doing their jobs properly.
Nows the time to increase the comp not shrink it just to give greedy players like Jamie Peacock or mercenary Aussies a bigger share of the wad - because fine words aside that's actually what he means.
If we learn that then McNamara or his successor will eventually triumph.
For now McNamara must stay and be backed all the way. The way he has dealt with the pretenders like Chase, the troublemakers like Hock or the fools like Hardaker shows me a man willing to face down the enemy within and without.
I'm especially pleased with the Chase decision. He could have said Chase had improved and he has and was worth sticking with rather than admitting his boy hadn't really done enough. For whatever reason he didn't, in the most important game of his coaching life he put his pride to one side and made the very brave decision to play Widdop and boy it nearly paid of.
The blokes got guts and that I have to admire. His tactics will only get better now he's proved he can admit a mistake - ditto his selections. Thanks to the NRL his player pool will also improve hopefully.
He must stay for continuity and be allowed to finnish what he has clearly started this WC - that's a team that plays with pride, is willing to learn and play for each other - in other words take it seriously. This set up kept together will return with a massive desire to put yesterday right - that I'm sure of I saw their faces.
