Such a tragic loss, he was a great man who has a legacy that will inspire many future generations. RIP Steve.

Not unexpected, but still deeply saddening.

A great player, but for his extraordinary, brave - heroic - attitude and actions over the last seven years, he really has left an inspiring legacy.

Heard as I sat down to watch the kick off. As the applause started I could feel a tear role down my cheek. A true inspiration.

Sad news, and thoughts and condolences go to his family.

That applause was spontaneous - a celebration of an extraordinary man and of his bravery. And in being celebratory, entirely respectful.

Reading how many people responded to it by being very moved, it has not been universally seen in that manner, but for some, as I described.

Obviously people may feel differently, but I suggest that we leave that for a discussion elsewhere and not on this thread.

Whilst I think personally a minutes silence is better than applause I wouldn't for a second say what happened today was in any way disrespectful. People felt like applauding the guy and his life......I'd say that was pretty respectful IMO.
