35k in ticket sales (which translates as 70k when expressed in Smokeycalc terms) at a stadium as big as the Millennium in Cardiff for the opening ceremony isn't going to look too flash.'"
Right bear with me with this. I have been monitoring the ticket page for a few weeks now (sad individual with bugger all to do in the evenings - the joys of working life in the evening!
). Now I have no doubt this could be wrong but cross referencing the rows sold along with the odd press release about details and the actual physical number of seats has been reasonably accurate. So analysis:
Lower Tier - 23,500 seats - 71 rows left (L32, L33, L4, L5 and L9) x 28 seats per row = 1988 seats left
Mid Tier - 18,000 - 7 blocks (counted rows available) x 20 seats per row x 15 rows = 2100 seats left
That leaves 4100 seats left (or 37,400 sold!), which is roughly accurate to 10% of 41,500 - THIS IS THE SAME AS QUOTED BY THE RLWC13 TEAM RECENTLY
Upper Tier - 33,000 = 11,800 seats sold (7800 West Stand and 4000 North Stand unavailable)
(Cat 3 - 7800 seats - 54 rows x 28 seats = 1500 seats sold)
(Cat 6 - 5200 seats - 173 rows x 28 seats = 4800 seats sold)
(Cat 7 - 8500 seats - 197 rows x 28 seats = 5500 seats sold)
So adding together 37,400 and 11,800 actually gives smack of 49,200 seats sold. Compare that with those still left available (4100 lower/mid tier, 11800 unavailable and 9400 unsold) leaves me about the exact capacity of the ground. Give or take the accuracy difference mentioned in the first paragraph and I reckon the current tickets sold could be anything from 47,500 to 52,000...
I also asked one of the ticket girls when I rang the other day to book a couple of tickets near where my group are located, she reiterated that 90% of the lower/mid tier had gone, plus the Cat 6 (mostly gone!) and 7 seats had been selling very well. So I can't be far off...
There is probably the odd Maths mistake in there but I personally can't wait for the Opener no matter the crowd size. Confident of a 50k crowd though...
