| Changing the structure of SL every few years isn't going to change anything. The game needs big bucks, just like NRL and Union... easier said than done I accept, but both the RFL and Clubs need to make it the number one priority. All these problems stem from financial difficulties. And to get past that the game needs to face the hardest task, marketing, The one issue that the RFL seem to avoid. Big sponsors and pushing the game down south would be a good place to start. And with the WC coming up, it would do wonders for England if they got to the final at least, the country seems to grab on to any success from the UK. Union in England seems to survive heavily upon it's national team. We've got the talent no doubt, hence why players have been poached from our game for as long as I can remember... and they still are today. And SL is the second most watched sport on Sky, the fans are there, but it needs to be pushing on now, in fact it should've been eight years ago. Sadly, it's the RFL's job to sell our game... and it's evident they're not doing it.
As for the revolt, I think it'll do good just to simply rattle the RFL. As I said, they've got too comfortable sat in Red Hall with no questions asked. Sadly, the said revolt doesn't push for the biggest issue, marketing.

You're assuming that there are marketing aspects to an RFL plan?

| Quote gutterfax="gutterfax"and the blame for this mess lies fairly at the feet of the RFL who have apparently been to busy saving Bradford and Buying Iconic Odsal to concentrate on running the sport and generating revenue.

Yes. The mistake the RFL made was that they should have said to SLE concerning Bradford "Not our problem. You are an independent group, outside the RFL and have total control of the Sky money. Bradford are one of your member clubs so it is your responsibility to bail them out".

I agree 100% and always have.
Also, if P&R returns in whatever form, it should be the league winner who is promoted as they have proved themselves to be consistently the best team throughout the season and ergo are best prepared to step up.

Maybe I was naive and hopeful
There's an awful lot in the review about expansion but not anything about making it work - got to question the plan - build the temple and they will come?
Also "expansion of the game" is a very generic term, I'd of thought they'd have specific ideas over where to expand in the coming years or is it a case wherever we find a club pop up in another area then well get to work? This area of the document seems very speculative to me
I like what's planned for an increase in ways round the salary cap with home grown players (but increases confusion given the plans for the academies)

| A lot of sense in that report, IMO.
I don't agree with everything, but as it implies in the foreword you can't please all the people on every detail and we need some kind of structure implementing.
If the disagreement is purely about the best way of structuring fixtures and how (not whether) to bring back P&R, then I'd hate to see the baby chucked out with the bath water. That gap really should be bridgeable.
It seems to offer a way forward together, and I think 'self-interested' division will ultimately be self-defeating.

play offs is a separate competition.
both the league and playoffs need restructuring, its a farce as it is

| Huddersfield wouldn't have won the league if the league leaders were crowned champions. A few other clubs in the top 5 would have put more emphasis on all the league fixtures rather than most of them.

| Quote bewareshadows="bewareshadows"So if tier 2 can have a salary cap of £900k, then it blows out the water that theory that tier 2 clubs will not be able to compete with those teams at the bottom of SL.
Also will explain the worry of SL clubs, if Championship clubs are brought within closer range of them.'"
Way, way more interestingly:
Quote bewareshadows The Tier 2 Salary Cap for 2015 would be increased to a maximum of £900k. As in Tier 1, the Salary Cap Value of a Club Trained Player would be limited to a nominal value of £40k (i.e. for any Club Trained Player with a Salary Cap Value of over £40k, his Salary Cap Value will be assessed at £40k only with any additional wage “off cap”). This would reward clubs for producing talent and give them an opportunity to retain this talent in the face of competition from other (primarily Super League) clubs. '"
Hadn't noticed this part of the proposal before, that really changes things... an entirely home grown squad has virtually no salary cap in the second tier! If it only counts the top 25 players in the cap still.

20 players up to the 40k is 800k and then the rest for bought in players seems a pretty good incentive to me
The super league equivalent (home grown players costing 100k on the cap) isn't quite as flexible as that so it's a pretty good incentive for everyone to get involved in youth development.
The home grown incentive and the championship salary cap increase are the best two things in the proposal
