Quote gutterfax="gutterfax"I repeat........how fast was your internet connection back in 1995? Did you send many text messages, or use your inclusive minutes to call up and pre-purchase game tickets or did you pay on the gate?
We all do things a lot differently in 2013 than we did in 1995. I am typing this on my phone which has a processor that is probably faster than the one I had on my desktop 18 years ago. I haven't purchased a ticket to any event in any way other than on-line for at least the last 10 years, haven't seen the inside of a travel agents in the same period of time and generally purchase tickets for sports events as soon as they become available (Auckland 9's tickets, Flights and Hotel already booked).
The RL fans are lazy argument is flawed.......what will be the excuse when the 500k target isn't hit?
Oh....BTW, if they are hoping England can manage to defeat the Aussies in game 1 as a basis for a "surge" in sales, then the people responsible should be shot......
I can buy a QF ticket in Wrexham for a tenner, one for Wigan for a fiver more. Not sure if the discount codes work, but in reality, England v Samoa/France/PNG in Wigan is live on the BBC so I wouldn't be banking on a massive walk up crowd for that game. The RLWC semi-final double header would involve trains/coaches/cars/hotels etc.....I really wouldn't hang my hat on a massive surge once the line up is known, because in reality, the only variable is who Australia will hammer in the 2nd game (Fiji probably)'"
They have set 500,000 as their target probably that is their best case scenario. So if they eventually get say 400,000 i would think they will be reasonably satisfied. if they reach their most optomistic estimates of 500,000 Yi would think they will be ecstatic.
I went to a wembly final 40 years ago amd pre purchased my ticket by mail from the RFL well in advance of the game, so this is not a new concept. It is certainly much much more prevalent since the advent of the internet and the speed of this medium is also reason for optimisim that sales will spike as the tournament gets going, the strength and likeability of various teams is revealed and the quarter finals lineups become known.
It is hard to look at the tournament as it stands at this moment and not be happy with it. It will be ther most successful world cup held in this country. That should be the benchmark and it looks like we will exceed it by some way.
I think if you got to Heaven you would complain that an angel's halo was crooked. I prefer to look at the many positives not constantly denigrate the sport I follow and harp constantly on it's failure when that does not seem to be the case here.
