Quote: Fantastic Mr Catpiss "The steward involved in the fracas with the widnes fan last august was found not guilty of assault,
3 key witnesses and the alleged victim didn't bother to turn up to court to give evidence. The gentleman in question was identified on CCTV for throwing the two smoke bombs, and when the security approached to remove him, he started being aggressive, and also was biting one of the security team.
Classy.'"
Just to balance things out a little bit, the lad who was assaulted didn't turn up to court as he is currently working abroad.
Also his solicitor was told that there was no cctv footage of the alleged assault by the steward, which would make it difficult to find him guilty.
Finally the bloke who was assaulted was not the one who took the smoke bombs to the match or threw them once set off.
The behaviour of some of the Widnes fans that day was a disgrace, and there had been a few incidents at other matches, but what the steward did to the innocent party was totally out of order and could well have sparked a riot if it hadnt been for the actions of the more level headed stewarding staff and the restraint shown by the more genuine Widnes fans.
