I doubt French has a hold over the corporation, '"
The BBC IMHO actually quite like us having Ray French and before him Eddie Waring.
They both played into the BBCs stereotypical image of 'ragbe leeg'.
For those who have been around for many a year.
We wanted Waring to be 'sacked', but the BBC basically said it was either Waring on the BBC or no Rugby League!
Personally I have no doubt that both French and especially Eddie Waring, they both love(d) the game. But IMHO, both should have been 'put to grass' many years before they became a standing joke by RL fans and the general public.

| And a penalty.Actually no,knock on scrum down. And the err Wigan err captain err Sean err O'Loughlin .At one point we had Ray even correcting Brian Noble. In the first half a London player was penalised for retrieving possession from an offside position but on the replay it seemed a possibility that a Wigan hand may have been involved thus allowing play on.This is the point that noble was attempting to make but was cut off by French who explained the London player had come from an offside position.Poor Noble had to accept the indignity as the game was then progressing and he had no further time to explain what he was getting at.

Empty stadium, terrible score, ray French commentating, all on national tv. Can't understand why SL can't attract corporate support!'"
Exactly. Nothing personal against Ray French, who I'm sure deserves plenty credit for his services to the sport, but any one with an A-level grade D in marketing could tell you that the image presented on Saturday was all wrong, absolutely dreadful. As you say, how the heck is that supposed to help attract corporate sponsors? Sunday was miles better (apart from the low attendance), but, when facing media bias as we always do, we have to get it right nearly all the time, not 50% of the time. It's no good moaning about the bias, we need to accept it's there but break through it with professionalism, not playing into the hands of those who denigrate the sport as something that belongs with pigeon racing. Rightly or wrongly, sponsors would be worried about the Saturday coverage, easily outweighing the positives of Sunday.
What can be done? This clearly isn't the RFL's fault in a direct sense - The RFL obviously don't have direct control over who the BBC choose to employ as commentators, but surely the point of hiring "big-hitters" ( let's wait and see hey ) is to have the behind-the-scenes influence to make sure the game is presented in the best possible light. I'm pretty sure the LTA would have a word if they got the tennis equivalent of French and Davies to commentate on Wimbledon. Are they at least 'having a word?'

What are you on about? Presumably you think you're a better player than Lee Briers then?

Why don't you just stick to accusing immigrants of spreading TB?

I'm sure there's truth in that. Thankfully, it feels at least like there's also some opposing forces who might actually like to see the game taken seriously ( as opposed to something like a travel documentary into the Deep Dark North ) - the contrast between Saturday and Sunday's coverage was stark - like two different sports. Make your mind up BBC, and go for the 'take it seriously' option and let Ray French retire gracefully. Great guy, I'm sure, but getting the sport taken seriously is more important.

It's a simple question. Are you better at rugby league than Lee Briers or not? If not then I await the removal of your post criticising him.
