''RALLY ROUND'': |
|
| Having been at the game in Toulouse this weekend, I have to question the crowd figures being given (12,000 and 14,800). I would guess that there were no more than 7,000 there and it seems to me that this is a giant promo exercise aimed at giving everyone the conception that Toulouse is this massive hotbed waiting to get into Super League. There was a huge banner at one end of the ground proclaiming them ready for Super League 2015. Add to this the fact that umpteen thousand freebies/flags etc were given to kids for this game, I would argue that the attendance was quite average to be fair. In the centre of town there is a shop selling rugby union gear, yet never saw any rugby league gear anywhere for sale.

| Quote: headhunter "In what was was it a disaster? Obviously the whole thing didn't work out, but what is the overwhelming negative legacy on the sport that would qualify it as a 'disaster'? We now have two strong semi-pro Welsh clubs, a player pathway for juniors in Wales and numerous talented young Welsh players at various SL clubs, none of which would exist without the 'Celtic disaster'. The overall net effect is still a good one even if the club itself didn't work out due to poor administration.'"
What a load of crap.

So you're saying all clubs should be on their doorstep to save money?
Perhaps maybe, just maybe, expanding the profile of the game may actually lead to more income from other areas (hence why other sports don't have leagues based within a few square miles).
Quote: Poggies "Also don't forget that during the time Celtic was in SL, it not only deprived a more suitable team of a place but also drained money from RFL funds.'"
Are you saying that Toulouse wouldn't suit SL? Why wouldn't they?
