A nurse at a hospital in Bristol which my missus attends every few months has a distinctive scouse accent. Wife, whose own scouse accent is much diluted after not living there for about 50 years, asked if she was from Liverpool. No, she says, I'm from Cheshire.

Nonesense. My two children were born while I lived in London, at the Mile End and London Hospitals respectively. They are both technically real Cockneys ( born within the sound of Bow Bells ). Needless to say, neither of them has a 'Cockney' ( which most notherners for misread as 'London' ) accent, as we did not live long in the area after their birth. They are still, however, Cockneys without accents. | | |

Scousers are from Liverpool, which is Lancashire. Birkenhead is Cheshire so technically she is right. Although the accents are basically indistinguishable from each other.
St. Helens and Widnes have very similar accents but sound nothing like scouse. Search 'Doug Laughton talking out his backside' on youtube.
