The McIlorum case was clear foul play during the passage of play.

To clarify, two blokes scrapping after a tussle is different to a defender attacking an opponent's head, off the ball.

It is, but I suspect the OP was referencing McIlorum's sending off against Bradford a couple of months ago where he punched Elima once and got a red card.

Whilst I partly agree, the time on the clock should be irrelevant. Foul play is foul play. It has no bearing on the game and he will probably get banned anyway if the incident is worthy (although with the RFL you never know) but as I say, foul play is foul play be it the first or last minute.

This is the same referee who last week was screaming down the ear of the referee to send a player off for contact with the head (rightly) but then this week used the time on the clock as a reason not too.
