distinction without a difference.
Quote kobashiAllowing them back in will destroy Scottish football. What's to stop other Scottish clubs liquidating and then setting up a newco because they know they can drop into the 1st division.
Hearts are £30m in debt. If they were to setup a newco and then be forced into the 3rd division then they would fight the SFL in the courts and would win. You can't have one rule for govan fc while the rest get put to the bottom.'"
The TV rights contract isnt dependent on any other clubs other than Rangers and celtic. If Rangers stay down for more than one year, that contract will be ripped up and the £20m a season currently pumped in to scottish football will drop to about half that. 4 Clubs in last years SPL averaged under 5k, 5 others averaged under 10k. What kind of impact is a loss of £900k a year in tv rights going to make to those clubs? Especially considering that one of their two biggest attendances are lost as well.
This isnt just a temporary thing, this will probably destroy Scottish football completely. TV's interest in Scottish Football starts and ends with the old firm. The next 4 years will see a massively lower TV rights, and much lower interest. The players leaving Rangers arent going to other Scottish clubs, they are leaving scotland, Celtic have no need, to have a better squad next season than this, They finished 31 points ahead of motherwell in 3rd place. Why would they keep on their big earners or sign new quality players? its just money down the drain. The likes of Ledley, Wanyama, Izaguirre, Commons et al will leave and not be replaced by the same quality. Without the tv money and gate money from rangers other SPL clubs will go bust, They will have to be dropped to the 3rd division and they will be replaced by smaller clubs who will in turn negatively affect the value of the league.
Rangers spend more than a year out of the SPL, the SPL is gone.
