Murphy won twice as player coach, 71 & 74 but lost twice as non-playing coach, 75 & 84, both times against Vin Karalius/Widnes.

Alex Murphy was a rugby genius. That he's not so well known outside RL circles matters not a jot. He's RL through-and-through to this day and represents the sport in a way that no Union convert ( pre or post League ) can ever do. In the build-up to the millennium The Guardian ( national ) ran a readers' poll for the greatest rugby player of all time and Murphy won it, deservedly.

I thought Neil Fox broke Jim Sullivans records.

I was referring to his total length of service to the game. About 40 years at the top level as player, captain and coach.

The fact he captained the first team to win at Wembley in 1929.. He scored the first points at the first Wembley CC final in 1929.

Sullivan still holds the record for the number of kicks in one match - 22 goals.

When Sullivan played we used to beat the Ozzies almost for fun.

Well , it is ridiculous that both Fox and Sullivan are not on the shortlist.
Neil played for 23 years 56 to 79 amassing over 6000 points.
He scored 4448 points for Wakefield.
3 Wembley winners medals, man of match in 62, and two championship winners medals.
He also played in successful GB teams scoring 228 points in 29 tests.
It would of been more as he was selected as captain of the 68 Lions , but a groin injury kept him out of that as well as 68 Challenge cup final.
Would he have of kicked the goal brother Don missed ?
