From what I understand other clubs and supporters want this:
Perth
and
Brisbane 2 or Ipswich (Ippie being the preference)

But eventually
Brisbane 2 under the right model (possibly Redcliffe)
and
Wellington / 2nd Auckland team (maybe the Lions)

NZ needs a club side outside Auckland. Expanding to other areas of NZ is just as important as expanding to Perth. The amount of players that alreayd come from NZ, and not just Auckland, shows the pool that is there already. That could increase even more. There is enough support there too. Tv money from NZ currently accounts for more than the Warriors get in grants from the NRL so they are more than paying for themselves at present and deserve another team. The Origin concept will somewhat deal with this issue of not having a team representing the rest of NZ, but it's not as good as having a club side.

PNG should get a side and the ARLC should make that official right now. But not till 2020. Give them the green light now and by then they would be more than ready to compete. They have a plan that is ready to be put into place, it's already started really, and if they were given assurances now they would be able to put the rest of the plan together. It's only ARLC inaction that will prevent it, not anything from the PNG end.

Quote: Odem "Surely a second NZ team must be taken into consideration. The strength of the game in NZ has real potential on the back of both domestic and mainly international success. The possible NZ origin series would further strengthen any bid.

I would like to see a second Brisbane team for the rivalry and to maximise the potential in Queensland. It is important to go as far as possible in NSW and Queensland before expanding. This is the mistake SL has made in expanding.

What sort of crowds would WA reds get? Would they not just be another flop?'"

15-20,000 and no!

The game needs to grow, it has reached saturation (many would say over saturated) in nsw.

Quote: Rooster Booster "With regards to NZ. Everyone talks about the strength of the game there. What is that based on?

Gutterfax? Anyone?'"

Other than the Warriors, Vulcans and U 20's, club League in New Zealand is very much a minority sport, but it is growing.
I watched my local club on Saturday..there were about 650 -700 peope at the game. One of the biggest problems League faces is its reputation as a "bad boy" sport....I caught the bus over to the game on Saturday, as last time I drove to Wainuiomata my car was broken into.....gang members are not allowed display patches at games, but when you see a group of guys all wearing red with their faces covered in tattoo's then you know the Mongrel Mob are in attendance. Mums aren't keen on their kids joining clubs where these animals hang around...but it is a problem that is diminishing.......slowly.
Up in Auckland, the schools competition seems to be getting stronger every year and the touch footie comps around the country are very League centric. Wellington colleges final in 2011 attracted a 3,000+ crowd.
I read a while back that 67% of Toyota Cup players at the 16 clubs qualified for New Zealand...maybe that's where the strength in depth comments come from? Have to say, whilst there are some stand out players in the Wellington League, the provincial championships would be of a similar standard to some of the Championship clubs in England.

Having listened to most London Broncos games this year, I reckon the Orcas would give them a run for their money icon_cool.gif

On the topic of a 2nd NZ Team......Mr Glenn as apparently said he'd prefer another northern team.....I 100% disagree. Base the 2nd team in Wellington, 6 games here, 6 in Christchurch.......sell 6 game memberships for about $200......you'd get 15k sold in both cities.....there's $6,000,000 before you've sold a shirt, cap or scarf. The "derby" match would sell out Eden Park/The Cake Tin/RL Stadium in a heartbeat.... and I'd have to sell all my warriors gear icon_biggrin.gif

Southern Orcas for the NRL in 2019.

CM - clear agenda to push for an NRL team in south-east

Couple of key points:

www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/nrl/s ... 6339206159·

These are the games in the south-east from Rd-8 to Rd 16.

(Apr 27th -June 25th )
Rd-8 Brisbane vs Gold Coast - SUNCORP
Rd-9 Gold Coast vs Tigers - SKILLED
Rd-10 Brisbane vs Manly - SUNCORP - Double Header
Gold Coast vs Bulldogs - SUNCORP - Double Header
Rd-13 Gold Coast vs NQ - SKILLEDBrisbane vs Knights - SUNCORP
Rd-15 Gold Coast vs Penrith - SKILLED
Rd-16 Brisbane vs Souths - SUNCORP·
In Round 17 Suncorp hosts the State of Origin on Wednesday and then the Broncos vs Sharks on the Friday night.·

In the same period from (Apr 27th - June 25th) Brisbane Lions AFL play 4 home games and the Reds play 2 home games. Gold Coast Suns play 4 home games.·

In the article it says "Brisbane Bombers bid chief Craig Davison expressed shock at the limited number of NRL games in Brisbane. "We talk about Queensland being the leading rugby league state, I've got more of a chance of seeing an AFL or union game than an NRL game," Davison said." This is a farcical ill-informed statement for the following reasons; From the period they are talking about in the article - 4th May - 18th June (between rounds 9 and 15)the Queensland Reds have 1 home game at Suncorp and the Brisbane Lions have 3 home games at the Gabba. So to say that he has more chance of seeing an AFL or a Super 15 game is wrong.· The story speaks about 3 games in 45-day period, but that is not abnormal (hardly newsworthy) - the Broncos get 12 home games a year and so the 3 games in 6 weeks (42 days) is on average a game every two weeks which is normal. It is really ridiculous that the story would describe it as an "virtual NRL blackout during the next six weeks"· It is a period during rep footy where teams are having bye weekends also - Brisbane and the Gold Coast both have a bye in rd-11 When you look at the facts it's hard to see how they write up such a clearly biased story except to come to the conclusion that the Courier Mail have a clear agenda for a Brisbane team in the NRL.

On top of that Brisbane had 16 NRL matches last year, not the "12"

RIVAL BIDDERS TO BE TABLE-MATES

BRISBANE Bombers managing director Craig Davidson was quick to reply to criticism from the rival Central Queensland NRL franchise bid team. (The Ear May 7) "We have a number of bidding teams and each is as passionate as the other and the final decision will no doubt be made in conjunction with various media groups. The decision will be what is best for the game," he wrote. And Craig revealed he would be catching up with CQ bid boss Geoff Murphy at the State of Origin Naming of the Team dinner tonight as he believed they were on the same table.
