Don't confuse increasing prices with just charging full room rate, neither Cardiff nor Edinburgh increased charges for rooms during MM they just charged the full rate for the room, you'd hardly expect them to offer discounts when they were going to be busy would you.
Also the date and venue has been known for ages, your window to book budget rooms is well past, don't blame hoteliers for that.
