I thought the commentary was very good and benefited from the absence of Phil Gould who is the Aussie equivalent to Stevo for me (i.e. annoying and always trying to say something controversial instead of commenting on the game)

I think Eddie and Stevo are great personally, at least they enthusiastic and love the game unlike a lot of the miserable lovers on this forum.

What? They are worse than Sky, wait and see if an English ref has the audacity to make a mistake in one of their games.

I will have to agree. They may not sound as openly outraged when they moan about a decision but they are certainly a lot more childish about it than eddie or stevo, and if the commentators themselves disagree about a refs call they spand the next ten minutes sniping at each other about it. Its just not as immediately obvious because everything below the emotional threshold of 'your mother has just been murdered' has the same flat monotone in aussie accents.

I don't mind Stevo and Eddie but it seems a bit theatrical and comic.
It always feels that they are trying to talk up the game into something that is not really happening on the screen.
The part where they attempt to educate the audience on the rules of the game makes you feel that they are commenting on some obscure sport that the people watching have no clue about.

Time for a change, the game has moved on but the commentary is keeping the game in the eighties.
In Australia Rex Mossop was fantastic in his era as was Ron Casey but their time moved on and they bowed out for new talent that understood the modern game better and had played at the highest level in more recent times.
Time moves on and the game moves with it as should the commentators.
