Schofield's performances at domestic level weren't in the same league as Edwards's.

Pretty broad statement that one

Edwards was a good player in a very very good Wigan side that dominated the domestic scene. It’s quite difficult in those situations to extract the player from the team when measuring quality

What is a good indication is the that Schofield went down under to play for Balmain and then Wests for three seasons and was hugely successful whereas when Edwards went to Balmain he struggled to make an impression

As I have said earlier in this thread, I watched Wigan week in week out throughout the mid to late 80’s and 90’s and there is no way that Edwards was in the same class as Schofield

Schoey and Edwards were different sorts of players though. As he said in his 'Supermen' interview, he was a loose cannon, who thrived off his individual skills and off-the-cuff plays, whereas Edwards was a distributor and organiser, and a born winner and team motivator. The only similarity was they they were both lethal support players.

Both great players in their own ways.

You come at the king - You better not miss. It ain't what you takin', it's who you takin' from, ya feel me? How you expect to run with the wolves come night when you spend all day sparring with the puppies?:41106.jpg

Both you and Robinson on the first page give away your ignorance by referring to Gary as fat...something (unlike Gregory) that you could never have accused him of in his playing days.

And yes as many others have now said - of course you'd have dropped (or moved to another position) Edwards. He was a good player whereas Schoey is one of GB greatest ever players just 'cos he didn't play in the best club side doesn't change that.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you. Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.:Dwarfs, Gnomes, Halflings/GNOME2.JPG

Think you have underestimated Schofield, here. Edwards early in his career was a very good support player and later became a very good half back in a dominating team.
Schoefield was an excellent creative player during all his career more skilful than Edwards.
Schofield was even better at international level something Edwards wasn't.

I seem to remember Schoefield was good enough to become an international player around 18-19 years of age, Edwards was not on the radar until he was 25-26 years, which I should imagine was because Schofield was first choice No 6.
Schoefield was successful playing over in the NRL, Edwards wasn't. Edwards also went over to the "dark side", but that might be the RFL's fault.
