Thanks to the hacking scandal the newspaper media is going about some kind of reform but probably not how most would want it. Most mistakes will probably be airbrushed over and the same old will stay at the top of the game.

I think that the same old have been at the top of the rugby league media world for far too long and it’s very rarely (if ever) that you get to see a young journalistic talent get a long term shot at making it in rugby league media. It’s time to change amidst the riots that are going on around the country -
How is the phone hacking scandal and the UK riots in any way related to the fact that there aren't many jobs for journalists covering minority sports?

I follow plenty of RL journos on Twitter and I wouldn't say there is a lack of talent or opportunities for budding RL writers to get exposure.

Who do you think is oppressing up and coming RL journos? Who has been around too long and needs to be dispatched? And why?

Is this just a personal rant you're having in public?

Ah, I see you've met Damo.

No offence, I'm sure the lad has some fans of his work somewhere, but frankly it resembles the output of the creatures in your username most of the time.

It’s time to change amidst the riots that are going on around the country - I would suggest that a lack of basic literacy is your key barrier to breaking into the world of Rugby League journalism rather than the ills of modern society

I’m not trying to break into it as this is a hobby of mine. But other people are who have much better literacy than I ever will have..

In order to turn this thread into a positive, what I will say is that Fourty-20 is a fine example of more work getting created for journalist of this sport. This is what we need more of.

We could do with blogs been sponsored by companies in the name of helping rugby league off the field as well as on it. I don’t think anyone should be dispatched off in the traditional sense as that would be pure reckless. But more work needs to be created and especially for those just breaking through. I’m sure there’s some entrepreneurs out there who can turn writing about the game we love into more money spinning ideas.

Yes I’m having a personal rant in public but I just want things to be better for everyone. I may go a controversial way about it but meh.
