Used to work in Aus, when they had 15. Money will talk ultimately. The season would be a couple of weeks longer, that's all, but each team would get a couple of weeks off during the year.

Yes they had 15 teams , but they played an even number of games , the magic weekend is an odd number of games , it only works with an even number of teams
