| Quote ROBINSON="ROBINSON"If the dark side want to monopolise the word 'rugby', let them.
Personally I'm sick of people who know nothing about either code, dismissing 'rugby' as boring and complicated, because all they see is jonny Wilkinson's lot huffing and puffing around, and jumping on each other. These are the same people who think nothing of asking "what's the difference between league and union?" My reply is that it would be quicker to point out the similarities.
Instead, we ought to distance ourselves - we already refer to American Football as NFL, octagonal cage brawling as UFC, Gaelic Football as GAA and the like, so why can't simply we be RFL?
It will only take a year or two of the media and the fans calling us RFL for it to become habit, and once that happens, people should see that our game is actually, nothing like union, and start to take it seriously, instead of it being the child.
Hence my "RFL Engage Super League" suggestion.'"
I like this idea. could actually work.

| I said years ago that Rugby League should drop the name Rugby.
And as with sponsors the RFL need to think out of the box.
No offence to Engage, Co-op, Leeds met & northern rail but they are hardly massive sponsors for which is in all aspects a European competition. There is only Leeds Met that could be used for the French market.

The Cooperative Group are probably one of the biggest companies in the UK, they have revenue of around £7bn for the first 6 months of 2010 and profits of around £300m for that period. They have fingers in pretty every kind of pie: financial services, energy, food retailing, legal services, travel, pharmacies, funerals etc...
They also have a database of around 5million members, whom they have regular contact with newsletters etc...
With their increasing high street presence, and the massive customer list they have the RFL should be begging them to get more involved in the game. The Cooperative Super League sounds good to me.

Once again, I've said this. Whilst I appreciate that money is at a premium these days, we should refocus the sponsor's role as one that provides RFL with awareness, rather than money.
For instance - wouldn't it be great if we could get someone like Cadbury's, who instead of putting £X in, would guarantee us promotion on all their chocolate bars, and in a given number of their TV adverts?
Taking it further, the weird and wonderful ads they've been doing, such as the gorilla one, and the top gun inspired one could easily be transferred into a Rugby League theme. A RL themed creme egg or easter egg would be an obvious thing to do as well.
My view is that the awareness things like this could create - at little effort and little additional expense to Cadbury - would easily yield a small fortune for RL in general.

| This one has a nice ring to it, although not an ideal sponsor I admit:

| Quote ROBINSON="ROBINSON"Because "Premiership" in RL terms is the old end of season competition for the top 8 clubs, and would be seen by everyone else as a rip-off of the wendyball competition.
"RFL Engage Super League", it should be.'"
I have thought along similar lines but I would rather (at risk of being nailed to hypothetical posts) we called our sport the NRL. I think its an acronym which runs along similar lines to the US sports NFL,NHL,NBA e.t.c.

With the Catalans/Tolouse's involvement, the sport has become more than national, ERL perhaps?
