I always rated him, he wasn't the biggest of lads but he was pretty nippy and had decent enough hands, would have like Justin Morgan to have had a year or two to work with him, does anyone know why his fall from grace was so rapid and no cellar dwellers came in for him from the SL???
Remember him getting king hit off playing for Wire at Hilton Park. He had the head to play the ball, then tried to walk and then stumbled horizontally about 40 yards into the Leigh dugout.
At one stage Gleeson went about 10 matches in a row getting clocked high by a marker when making a dart out of dummy half, that many hits the head and possible resulting concussion was never good for him and eventually it did seem to make him reign in those runs out of D/H. Shame.
Gleeson was good for us, at least that's how I remember it, but the reality is he was never more than a bench/squad player for Wire, and if none of the so-called cellar dwellers came in for him, then maybe he never quite did enough in either attack and/or defense to make other SL clubs think him worthy of a contract.
