Quote SmokeyTA="SmokeyTA"That isnt the case at all. Just being the best of however many teams doesnt mean you should be in the elite league, thats the reason we have an elite league.
If Cas's best aim is to simply offer a career to the local juniors and nobody below can offer more, we would be better cutting the size of SL.
And you dont need a sugar daddy to buy the best players or pay the full SC, both Leeds and Hull do it whilst making a profit. You could argue there are reasons Leeds and Hull can do this and Castleford cant, but they are simply reasons that SL may not be the right place for Cas.
The way to success is to develop local talent, but how many are you losing because you cant afford to keep them? If all the aim of Cas is to bring in local talent train them until 20/21/22 then let them go to the bigger clubs, they can do that in the championships.
If you are in SL, more is demanded of you.'"
No thats not the best that cas are aiming for, cas are aiming to grow as a club and doing so. If crusaders were doing as well as castleford in youth development and commercial development you would be shouting it from the roof tops. Success doesnt happen overnight it takes time to build and alot of hard work, that is what cas are aiming for sustainable growth and improvment, which is what the rfl has asked us to do.
Leeds and hull turn a profit, but there was a time they didnt and it took investment from big money men to make them turn a profit, if you have enough money you can make a club profitable, by getting better players in and spending more on marketing, which leads to more fans and more sponsorship.
Of course its not the aim of cas to develop players to see them picked off, that would be absurd, not every club can keep its players for ever. Every club in sl loses home grown players they would prefer to keep. Cas made the decision to concentrate on youth development in 2004, it has taken time for players to come through, some have stayed, some have left and more talented youngsters are coming through all the time. In the last 3 seasons we have lost boyle, shenton and westerman, huby and owen have stayed and holmes, arundel, thompson, milner, davies and walker have come through, with orr returning.
