We do produce plenty of players capable of playing at a high standard.
But the aussies produce more, much more and therefore more 'freaks' in their hierarchy if you will.
A school boys team comes through every year or two whereas produce one Inglis or Lockyer and he stays in your national side for 10 years +. we have plenty of players capable of mixing it in the NRL but when it comes to their freaks in the national side, we dont have players of that ability

on the other hand scott yates played fullback for the england academy a few yrs back, he couldnt hold down a place at widnes and is now at rochdale

Was just about to post a similar point.
There are some GB players who don't make it through to SuperLeague who looked great at schoolboy level.
Especially forwards.....and even more props.
It is simply a measure of the teams at that age group and in that year we were better.

I will say however that from that age on, Australia develop their players better than we do.

PS. Wally Lewis played for Aussie school boys......how come he isn't in the team of the century. Politics me thinks!
