For what it's worth I find the sexism on this thread relating to the woman in the picture at least as offensive as Monaghan's act.

The reaction here has been a bit hysterical - a lot of that is down to the dreadful track record of NRL players getting into trouble when drunk over the last few years.

Having said that, I hope Monaghan's career isn't ruined as a result. I can fully understand him wanting to quit Australia, as all he's ever going to hear is about this event. Whilst not condoning what he's done, some of the violent and degrading stuff got up to by other players - a lot of whom have got away with it -is far worse IMO.

re player behaviour, it's not confined to NRL, it seems some Australian sportsmen struggle to have any concept of moral decency regardless of what code they play.

Nice big money Union deal in the far east might keep people off his back. Personally I think yes it is something that is morally wrong and he is going to pay the price by losing his job and potentially his career. He will struggle to walk down the street with out being shouted at and feeling disgrace. How he deals with it is what worries me, we've already had an incident this year where a Rugby League player that was not looked after properly has taken his own life, we'd hate to see this happen again because of an idiot act of drunken behaviour.
