Quote: Bilko "EYou can't lay all your cash out at once and by the time you begin to think about Murrayfield (and in truth I've not begun thinking about it yet) the costs have spiralled.'"
You don't have to, the vast majority of hotels pay either on arrival or departure, only Travelodge out of the budget chains take payment in advance, trains go onsale three months in advance, it doesn't take a great deal of planning to cut costs. We all knew the dates for this at the event last year, so that is a whole year people have had to sort things.
We followed the same routine when going to Cardiff, book the hotel as soon as we could, most book 12 months in advance, no deposit needed, no cancellation fee if things change, cheap rates locked in, Innkeepers lodge did it three nights for the price of two. Gives you a good amount of time to save for it.
