Quote: hfc herts "If you cannot understand the facts that Football and Cricket are national past times regardless of what channel they are on. Union is in the nations blood (rightly or wrongly) then you are clearly living in a different dimension.

You are exactly the type of person I was talking about with my point. RL is a small time sport which is enjoyed by a small group of people in a narrow corridor of the country. To the majority of people in the UK if it was to disappear off the radar for the rest of their lives they would not even notice. Football, Cricket and Union plus Tennis, Snooker and Athletics are the main sports for the beeb and the UK people. Yes many other sports are played including RL but they are minority sports and one or two on here need to wake up and accept that or remain to look like bitter people.'"

What on earth are you talking about? icon_confused.gif

I know exactly how small RL is. I also have absolutely no interest in those other 'sports' as I find them very boring, that's why I take no notice of them. I don't give a toss if the rest of the country are doing something else, I know what I like.

Come to think of it, if you were watching the SPOTY, this means you missed the X-Factor. As such you were in the minority and when will you realise everyone is more interested in that than some sports show etc etc etc.....logical?

But surely more people go to watch League than Union (not including internationals), Cricket, Tennis, Snooker and Athletics so do you not think that it should be given equal airtime on that brown-nosing contest they show once a year?

The problem is the internationals are the only part that count in any sport other than Football. Union have a credible international scene, Cricket has the Ashes, Athletics have the Olympics, Tennis has Wimbledon.

I bet the average person doesn't know who the best Guinness Premiership side are, or who the best County Championship side are, whose the best athletes outside the Olympics or who has won any other major tennis tournaments outside the Grand Slams.

We need that international scene to appeal to the average person then we might get some coverage.

"As you travel through life don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things" - George Carlin [url:2cg5oc2o]http://twitter.com/AndyGilder[/url:2cg5oc2o] [url:2cg5oc2o]http://fromthewesternterrace.blogspot.co.uk[/url:2cg5oc2o] This week: Four keys to a Rhinos win in the WCC:Transparent Backgrounds/Waldorf.gif

The way the show was put together this year seemed to be much more focussed on the achievements of the final ten rather than a review of what has gone on in various sports over the last 12 months. IMO it looked like everyone got their airtime cut and league didn't necessarily come off much worse than say domestic cricket or union in that regard.

Pretty much the way I saw it. Focus on the 12, with all the domestic sports getting roughly the same amount of time, even football only got an overview of who won the trophies.
