ok i'll bite
Quote: Barry_McKenzie "Morely. Couldnt keep his shots down, always suspended, chooks got the jack of it, released him.'"
was a shame they release him so soon wasn't it....oh wait didn't he play over there for 5 years.
Quote: Barry_McKenzie "Thorman. Possibly the worst player Parra have ever had.'"
he's also one of the worst players in super league, didn't seem to stop him getting a contract in the great NRL
Quote: Barry_McKenzie "Ellis. Had to be coached in the BASICS of RL and is now still only average.'"
that kid must learn very quickly
Quote: Barry_McKenzie "Tansey. Played about 2 first grade matches for the chooks before ending up back home.'"
he actually played 7/8 games iirc, and was Sydneys best player in most of them. surely that makes him one of the best players in england, since we always hear that your bottom teams are better then our top teams?
Quote: Barry_McKenzie "That idiot who played for the Gold Coast...can't remember his name...can't be bothered to google it...think he went to Wigan but now plays for Warrington....shows how much of an impression he made I cant even recall his name. He was WOEFUL.'"
didn't watch many of his games, but he was coming back from a major injury so guess he won't have been in top form. either way yet another kid that got a contract in the NRL, your scouts really that poor? or is it your judgement?
as for Gould, i actually like him & most of what he says. talks a lot of sense, gives reasons for his views, explains everything. bar when it comes to english rugby, never gives any reasoning behind his view, just comes out with lines like "its so poor, its laughable" etc. it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't/hasn't watch super league, and is just saying what most australians think/want to hear, 'that they're the best at everything'.
There is little doubt that the NRL is more competitive, and that a few of your top players are head and shoulders above ours, but the 2 styles of the leagues are too different to compare properly. and international rules of late have been played more in the favour of the NRL style (e.g. wrestling, holding down, to get slow play the balls), now i'm not saying england would have won if it was played more to super league style (and IMO should have done much more to accommodate the different style into they own play). i'm suggesting it is unfair to judge the merit of english rugby, solely on the score in these games.
one question i would like someone to put to gould is "if the super league is so 2nd rate/poor/crap/etc, why do quite a lot of your great players come over, and are either sh*te or distinctly average. e.g. matt king, tim smith, Riddell, cayless, Faumuina and so on"
