The IOC have a policy of only wanting the main form of a sport being played, not a derivative. 7's is not the main form of union so that should rule them out immediately but then they do have an incredible PR machine that turns even bad news into good for them.

Squash has an awful lot of support in the middle east and asia, and with Chicago and Tokyo on the shortlist for 2016 then baseball and softball will fancy their chances.

Union 7's has been dropped from the Commonwealth Games.

I would have no problem with rugby union 7's been put in the Olympics, as long as the way they chose the teams would allow league players to be picked. As has been shown at the Twickernam 7's, when a rugby league side take it seriously they win.

It would be great to see a Union event, where there were fair trials and it turned out that all the players for Aus/New Zealand/Great Britain where actually league players.

Indeed, I would find it ludicrous to include rugby union sevens while the main forms are not included. Obviously, it is the Union sevens which would be included... Another way for the Union code to progress. I guess that is the agenda of the IRB.
