| Quote Saddened!="Saddened!"Awful game. Wigan are so bad away from the DW.
Has there ever been a worse Wigan pack than this current one?
Tell you what though Wanes dig at the ref was just. He gave nothing today, how it didn't explode is beyond me. So much childish behaviour on show from both sides, Westwood and Sims were funny, both had totally lost it and would have been sent off if Wigan could have mustered any kind of meaningful opposition.'"
Didn't manage to watch the game, but our away form is worrying to say the least. I really don't understand how a team can be so good playing on one particular field, then dreadful on any other. Our only convincing performances away from the DW have been at the magic and Huddersfield.
We've definitely had worse packs down the years, I think we have a decent pack actually, we showed on good Friday that we can compete with the best and even at Langtree Park I thought we were on top for periods of the game. I wonder if all the uproar from the Ben Flower red card, and the subsequent criticism of Wane after the World Club Challenge film, has taken the sting out of us a little.

I don't think the players can physically do what Wane is asking of them. For the last couple of years they've been asked to run through brick walls by Wane and it worked. But I don't think players can always reach that peak of physical dominance over another team that Wane wants. I just don't think players bodies are up to it, game after game, season after season.

Oh yes.
The one that got relegated in 1979-80 for starters.
Who else remembers Steve Breheny, Nicky Kiss, Steve O'Neill, Billy Melling, Terry Hollingsworth, John Pendlebury with such stellar talents at Mick Rennox, Malcolm Smith, Dave Regan, John Clough and Mick Nanyn as back up ?
Dennis Boyd was ace though.

Their back row is pretty strong. Their props are just awful though with regards to carrying the ball. Flower, Crosby, Mossop, Sutton and Tautai carried the ball for 318m yesterday, making 5 tackle busts. Alex Walsmley is averaging 141m per match on his own! He's also averaging 4 tackle busts a match. I don't see how they can expect to compete with the big teams with such a poor front row.

| It's no secret our 2015 props are soft as s***. You could pick a pack off this forum to outmuscle them.

| Wigan's props are all defensive props, they don't have one prop who gives consistent go-forward, and their play makers are too one dimensional to compensate for their lack of space the forwards don't create.

| I enjoyed that match - bit scrappy in places and not a lot of skill on show, but plenty of blood and thunder, and a manful display from Wire after a short turnaround; they out Wigan'd Wigan, which is quite satisfying.
Am I the only one however getting a bit sick of hearing Mr Thaler sneering at the players to "Gerrup - play the ball?!" He seems to have decided to take a stance against milking but in my view, has taken that way too far; he ignores some fairly blatant infringements in the tackle/ruck for the sake of avoiding being old-manned, and it causes escalation - if the Wigan players had the energy, that game could have boiled over at several points.
That said, I thought Wane's comments were disingenuous - "you need a strong ref when you come here?" I would have thought that the last thing Wigan want is a strong ref...

A strong ref would've sent Sims off for a shoulder to the face and then 2 sly punches on a half-back!

Any prop forward putting in sly punches on a HB should be sent off. My daughter would have laughed at taking them. Unless you're going to break his jaw you're not a proper prop. However as it was against Wigan & it has contributed to the pie board's biennial meltdown & 'falling out of love with the game' I will embrace it.
