Quote pyeman="pyeman"In your opinion. For me the trophy which shows which team was consistantly the best throughout the course of the season has a lot of value. A team could struggle all year, be half way down the table and get lucky or there opponants might struggle with injuries/fatigue. Its possible a side could win the grand final by fluke, but you wont come top of the league unless your the best side in the competition.'"
And the results from all the Grand Finals -bar one - since the competition began have been contested between the teams finishing in the top two places of the league.
You could also say that with the skewing of the fixture list over the last few years and the fact that the league leadership has been decided by the odd point or two for the same period(apart from 2004 of course), that actually the lead leaders shield does not clearly define the Champion team. Champion teams perform on big occasions, that's what sport is all about.
