| We're a work in progress alright. Try from a pass would be nice. Good try by Ah Van though.

| You play with no halfbacks. Sykes was non existant today at 6. If we would have had a specialist halfback on the pitch today we might of had a few tries outwide, because several times Wigan were short on the flanks, but we did'nt get the ball out. Brett Kearney gave 100% today, and we relied on him too much with the ball in hand and he is not the best at kicking for postion.
Overall we were poor today though, I thought Ian Sibbit looked good pre season, but has had 2 poor games on the trot now, and should be dropped next week.
In previous games i've never really watched for Wigan slowing the play down, but today we could have had at least 15 more penalties from holding down, and it does ruin the play of the ball. The referee was once again shocking today.

| Pretty worried about things now we'll never get a better chance to beat Wigan and we looked clueless at times!
Once again we have no halfbacks fit, it took us four sets to work out we weren't going to biff our way over. We have no pace out wide, Ah Van should be playing inside Ainscough, and the ball didn't get out wide at all.
Whilst I'm sure we'll improve, I'd like to see Potter have a look at some of the other players we have in the squad and a bit more youth would be good, I don't see what some of the players we've signed offer in front of some of our kids except age!
Great to see a crowd in today, just hope the obvious enthusiasm can transfer to the pitch next time out

23997_1287161421.jpg
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg |

| I'm very disappointed Sykes was picked at 6 and even more disappointed Potter didn't change things round inside the first 20 minutes when it was clear Sykes can't pass or kick a rugby ball.
I also hate to agree with Gary Hetherington but Wigan are a terribly cynical team and the constant wrestling at the PTB is simply not rugby league as I've grown up with it.

| Bit OTT that. Wigan were always going to be a tough ask even with Herbet, Briggs & Langley. We showed very little creativity near their line and that's fair enough seeing as we missed both our halves.
It could have been a lot worse. It was always going to be damage limitation.

| Got to agree on a lot of those points, there were few, if any, positives today.
As much support I have for Potter, I think he bottled it with today's selection. You simply can't afford to go into a Superleague game, not least against Wigan, without recognised halfbacks. Why the hell wasn't Addy picked, or better Southernwood?
I think it was a poor reflection that Kearney got MOM, he deserved it on effort, but he didn't put a good pass on all game.
After last week's encouraging performance, today's was absolutely terrible. The lads need a good kick up the backside this week, starting with a heavy session tomorrow. The desire shown last week seemed to be hiding this week, not a good afternoon to be stood at Odsal with little to clap about.

| We were always going to struggle today playing with no half backs againts the best team in the league, but having no half backs doesnt excuse our poor defence we look no different from last season when it comes to defending out wide we get drawn in so easily.

| We had both our halfs out injured, we are a new team and you're saying we are not going to get a better chance to beat Wigan?

| Outclassed today by a very good Wigan side unfortunately. They're extremely tough to break down and despite Kearney's best efforts we never looked likely to score enough points. We once again didn't get much rub of the green from the officials but unlike last week it would have made little difference to the end result.
The lack of creativity is understandable given the key players we had out, I have no doubt the club would move for a creative 13 or halfback if a decent one became available to bolster this weak area in our squad.
Potter will be disappointed with some of the plays that continually gifted Wigan possession on our 40m line which put us under some pressure in the 1st half. That extra work in defence led to some poor attempts at tackles towards the end.
This game has come a little bit too early for us, but we'll be a much better side the next time we face Wigan.
On a positive note, how great was it to see Odsal packed out?

| Poor performance. Defence terrible. No creativity.
Why wouldn't we get a better chance against Wigan. They'll have had a flogging in training after last week, and they were always going to come out all guns blazing for 80 minutes.
My optimism hasn't gone, even though i am extremely disappointed with that performance. We were never going to break that (superb) defence down by playing one man rugby. Admittedly it would be difficult for any side without their halfbacks, but they shouldn't be the only source of creativity. Obviously they are the main one, but there should be other players in the squad to create something.
If Herbert isn't back next week then I really think Southernwood should get a chance. Okay, he's not ready physically, but a couple of games isn't too much to ask imo.
Sykes offers nothing in the halves, and whilst he did try, he was reluctant to pass the ball and he didn't make any decent ones. You can't play in the halves if you're not going to get the ball out.
Bryn at 13 baffled me too, when we are without halves we need extra creativity in the side - Addy should've been in imo.

| Utter rubbish. I had to check the date to make sure it was not 2010 all over again. Clueless going forward, players playing out of position, players who can't catch or pass or tackle. Dire.
That was a poor Wigan performance and the put 40 past us, at home.
All my early season optimism has just well and truely gone.

| And why no Addy? So lets play a prop at 13, a full back at scrum half and Sykes at 6 and leave Southernwood out altogether. I don't get it at all.

| I think there is inevitably a bit of over-reaction on here (and on Radio Leeds, listening in the car on the way home)
We came up against a very professional (albeit somewhat cynical) team today and came up well short. I haven't seen the stats, but I'm pretty sure we spent as much time in their half with the ball in hand, as they did in ours. The big difference was that they converted something like 60-70% of attacking possession into a try. That's simply the result of professionalism, slick play, speed of thought and the fact that the team has been well drilled over a period of time.
We looked a bit undercooked by comparison. There were some good signs I thought, and no lack of effort. I think the guys gave it their best shot, but were second best in everything really.
I don't actually think Sykes was all that bad, but he's clearly no stand off - he just doesn't have the speed of thought and execution to make a No 6. That's because he isn't one. I'd like to hear Mick Potter explain why Addy didn't get the start in that slot. Given that he wasn't even on the bench, perhaps there was a late injury? Perhaps would also explain why Hargreaves started at 13 - a bizarre choice I felt
Great to see Odsal jumping, and must confess the hairs on the back on my neck stood up when the fireworks went off and the entire main stand stood to clap the team onto the pitch.
But, keep the faith. We will improve, I am sure

It wasn't the best - but it was by no means poor. Tomkins was sheer class for them. Their defence was absolutely outstanding too.
