| Quote: Exeter Rhino "Depends how you define 'big season'. Players like Scruton, Langley, Platt, Sykes, Sheriffe and Godwin have the potential to be much better than they were last season for Bradford. For someone like Sculthorpe, however, his best days are probably behind him now so you shouldn't expect too much from him.'"
bit harsh lumping wagga in with some of other under performers imo. He was quiet at beginning of season admittedly, although in a badly struggling team, but was just starting to come good when he got injured. After he came back from injury he was one the best players during the late season run of form imo and really upped his game in newtons absence.
and langley played most of season with a shoulder injury, suffered at beginning of season at same time as the one which put solomona out pretty much for the year, which hes had surgery on in off season so whilst its fair to say langers hasnt kicked on as well as we hoped he would he does have a bit of an excuse for last year.

You think? And yet the 'accepted wisdom' is that props reach their peak in their early 30s. Funny old world isn't it

Not every prop reaches his peak in his early 30s. How old is Fielden?

No, you're right. Many props are past it by 30, just look at Peacock.

Beware of the rig.
Think with the excitement of Orford and Kearney mainly, because we are looking forward to some creativity in the halves, Hall has been overlooked a little latley (perhaps because his signing was so early aswell.
I for one am extremely excited about seeing him play, from what I saw of him at manly, he makes excellent metres in attack, is solid in defence and can put some real big hits in.
Roll on 2010!

Really dont wanna disagree with you, but not seen a lot from him in the NRL thats fiklls me with hope. He will be solid, but the reason I would overlook him is because players like Orford and Kearney are gamebreakers and Hall is not. But at the end of the day, I'd just be happy to see us play winning rugby, I'm actually of the opinion that all are signings that willl improve our squad. But not all are going to set the world alight, it would be naive to suggest that each player that the Bulls have signed would not improve the squad we have, even sculthorpe who adds a ball handling dimension to a decent go-forward pack.

You can't have watched too much then? He rearely misses a tackle, doesn't give many penalties away, doesn't knock on often, gains good metres and doesn't take a backwards step and his offload is something too.

Watched heaps of NRL last season but don't really see him as a attacking second rower (3 line breaks in 22 games last season), more a grafter, thats why he steps up to prop when needed......and not seen much of his offloading ability either, he averages less than one a game (8 in 22)....
Like I say though, I do think he will be a success, better than what we have already and does make a good solid average of about 8 metres a drive which is good, but I won't be expecting his attack to be lighting up Odsal anytime soon. For anyone who cares, 2009 stats from here:

I'm not saying hes a great attacking player, he doesn't break the line that often, no, but he does make excellent metres and doesn't usually take a backwards step. His offloads are few and far between, but he's the sort of player that won't go looking for the offload, but if he's there he'll provide a cracking one (see Manly vs Parramatta @ Parra (I think!)). He's a workhorse with a few extra touches and I think, like you say, he will improve our side.

Stay cool young fellow, Hall will produce and stats are umimportant for this guy. He makes his own that are not on the lists. Wait and see.
Remember you heard it here first.

Yeah I'm gonna miss having sky Even better in New Zealand you get every NRL game live (or slightly delayed when there is a clash) every weekend, along with the two SL games you get here....gonna be a lean year of rugby watching this year, picking and choosing the good games at the pub.
It will be all the more heart wrenching if the Bulls tear up!
